The Reggio Emilia Approach originated in the town (and surrounding areas) of Reggio Emilia in Italy out of a movement towards progressive and cooperative early childhood education. We can’t ‘do Reggio’ because we are not located in Italy, but we are inspired by its philosophy and passion that places children and by extension, their families at the heart of all learning. The most well-known aspect of the Reggio Emilia Approach is the belief that children use many different ways to show their understanding and express their thoughts and creativity. Its creator and founder Loris Malaguzzi famously summed up his philosophy in poem “Hundred Languages of Children” .
